The PP&P program brings together rescue dogs from the Halifax Humane Society with inmates from Tomoka Correctional Institution Work Camp, who obedience-train them. The graduating dogs are crate trained, housebroken, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots and micro-chipped. We also partner with Orlando V.A. and Give Companion Dogs to Veterans with PTSD.
Through programs like Prison Pups N Pals, the Department of Corrections is focusing on teaching inmates viable job skills that will lead them to productive jobs and law-abiding lives upon release.
If you wish to attend the PP&P graduation ceremony, please contact the Department of Corrections’ Communications Office at (850) 488-0420 as soon as possible to ensure background checks are completed in time for the event.
The Halifax Humane Society adoption fee is only $70! Dogs that are over 5 years of age are adopted for $35! --a bargain, when you consider that the dog will be trained and housebroken. Adoption forms may be obtained by calling the shelter at 386-274-4703. For more information about the program, please visit www.prisonpups.org, or halifaxhumanesociety.org.
