Visitor Contraband Interdiction | April 23 – April 29, 2019
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.
Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is contacted, and they determine whether to make an arrest.
Hamilton Correctional Institution: On April 27, during a pat search, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of a cell phone. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.
Walton Correctional Institution: On April 28, during a pat search, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of marijuana, synthetic marijuana and narcotics. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.
As Florida's largest state agency, the Department of Corrections employs 24,000 members statewide, incarcerates approximately 96,000 inmates and supervises nearly 166,000 offenders in the community.
