Benefits
The Residency stipend is $72,010 based on 1900 hours of work paid at the rate of $37.90 per hour. Residents will be paid by direct deposit, bi-weekly. Florida has no state income tax. While participating in the Florida Department of Corrections’ training program which is designed, managed, and directed by the State, residents are paid and employed by Centurion of Florida, LLC, the private vendor contracted to provide comprehensive health care services within FDC facilities. An additional 100 hours of approved professional development experience is required to successfully complete the 2000-hour residency. These 100 hours may include attendance and participation in conferences, attending professional meetings, interviews, or other professional activities. These professional development hours will occur at locations outside of the Florida Department of Corrections facilities and may be unpaid or compensated by accrued leave time provided by the private healthcare vendor, based on applicable criteria.
In addition to competitive pay, employment with Centurion of Florida LLC offers additional benefits. These include the opportunity to purchase health insurance and other products for the resident and their legal dependents, eight (8) paid State holidays and paid time off (PTO) that accrues at a rate of 6.15 hours per 2-week pay period. It is this accrued leave which can compensate the 100 hours of professional development activities. When professional development time is taken, any existing PTO balance will be utilized before unpaid leave is given, consistent with Centurion leave policies.
Residency related expenses will include the cost of a specific type of lab coat to be worn during clinical duties and the $35.00 membership fee for joining the Florida Psychological Association. We may attend up to 10 training activities such as visits to other institutions (e.g., Florida State Prison, Lowell C.I and Lake C.I), attendance of Florida Psychological Association chapter meetings, a Florida Board of Psychology meeting and/or other opportunities that may arise during the year. While residents may share rides and carpool to these events they often choose to travel in their own vehicle and should be prepared to provide their own transportation as needed.
Residents will be assigned to different facilities for each 6-month rotation with one facility in Zephyrhills, FL and the other located in Ocala, or Clermont, FL. These facilities are located approximately 90 minutes apart. Residents will be expected to commute to both facilities throughout the course of the training year using their private vehicle. This may prove to be a point of consideration when considering housing for the residency year.
